“We are not allies. White solidarity is part of a strategy!”

African People’s Solidarity Committee Chairwoman Penny Hess spoke to supporters and press on December 16, 2024 after the Uhuru 3 sentencing hearing:

This is a victory for the reality that the Party and the Chairman created the white solidarity movement, in part, to break the isolation that the US government has imposed upon the African Liberation movement– that the African People’s Solidarity Committee (APSC) was created to be a front.

We are not allies. We are not “support” in that way.

We are part of the strategy of the African People’s Socialist Party to go into the white community and win reparations because we tell the truth about this country in the past. Now we know that it can’t be denied that the U.S. and this system was built on the enslavement of African people. It was built on the genocide of the Indigenous people.

This is a powerful victory! Free Leonard Peltier! Free the Indigenous people–this is still their land! And if white people want to join the future, we need to be under the leadership of those who have been oppressed and colonized for hundreds of years for our benefit. And this is a powerful victory the Chairman has won. I am so honored to be on this side of history. We are winning!

This is so moving! Thank you to our attorneys who were amazing, our comrades indeed.

Leonard and Angela who I had the honor of working with in particular, but it was a whole team! They all brought that distinct style and it was just incredible. And I also just want to salute my comrade Jesse Nevel who is an amazing, powerful comrade, also the Uhuru lawyer in a lot of ways.

Uhuru!
