Uhuru Solidarity Movement Chair Jesse Nevel spoke to supporters and press on December 16, 2024 after the Uhuru 3 sentencing hearing:
Uhuru! Not one day! Not one dime! 28 months and two weeks ago, on July 29, 2022, the U.S. government came to the homes of Chairman Omali Yeshitela, Deputy Chair Ona Zené Yeshitela, Chairwoman Penny, myself, my wife Amanda, my comrade Kitty Riley, the Uhuru House in St. Petersburg, Florida, and the Uhuru Solidarity Center in St. Louis.
They came with hundreds of agents. How much money was spent that day alone carrying out that military operation against the Uhuru Movement; handcuffing Chairman Omali and Deputy Chair at gunpoint for hours?
Nine months later you have the indictment, you have hundreds of FBI agents working on this case.
You have the national security division of the justice department coordinating the prosecution.
You have an untold amount of resources and focus that the U.S. government tried to bring down against the movement of African people for liberation– and they got their asses handed to them!
That is a testament to all of you, but above all, it is a testament to the relentless indestructible leadership of Chairman Omali Yeshitela and Deputy Chair Ona.
And I consider it the greatest honor of my life up to this point to have been targeted alongside my two heroes–the leaders who have been the greatest inspiration to my life, Chairman Omali Yeshitela and Chairwoman Penny.
I just want to finish by saying that as Chairwoman Penny said–this is a time now for all white people who want to take a stand to join the Uhuru Solidarity Movement because this victory proves that nothing will ever silence the voice of African people, oppressed people, colonized people struggling for their liberation for their self-determination.
And from the voice of white people we’re saying we stand in solidarity with Black Power. We stand for reparations to African people.
We stand for a free Palestine.
We stand for a free Indigenous people.
Free Leonard Peltier! Free Mumia Abu Jamal! Free all African, Indigenous and colonized peoples everywhere! Your voice will never be silenced!
A people united will never be defeated!
